ASHFIELD ACADEMY ANNOUNCEMENT
🚨 In light of today’s recommendation from the Scottish Youth Football Association on discouraging training drills that involve repeated heading of the ball, the club have issued a statement. 🚨
“From the recent news on the SYFA recommendation against training drills that encourage repetitive heading of the ball (due to recent studies on dementia cases related to football from Glasgow University) on age groups up to and including Under 11s, Ashfield FC & Academy will temporarily enforce this recommendation as a rule and expectation with immediate effect on our age group levels from mini-kickers to, and including, our Under 11s level.
That said, we are aware that this is an ongoing study and the next 18 months will be crucial in Glasgow University gaining further analysis and data to enforce this recommendation to a possible strict policy.
Until then we will be open to calibrate with the SYFA and any other bodies to change this temporary rule to a more permanent one. We will not have a permanent procedure in place to this recommendation until it is abundant by the official bodies.
This change may cause some concerns amongst our members, players and parents but our initial response must be corrective until notified by the expert bodies of otherwise.
A temporary policy will be created by the club for all members to read, understand and sign over the coming days.
For now, communication has been sent to the academy leads to relay to all members, players and parents to advise of our temporary change (reiterate with immediate effect).
Internal audits will continue towards the end of the year and into the new year from our senior coaching team and this temporary ruling will be part of the requisite of the audit.
The club would like to thank everyone for their cooperation on the matter at hand and your support going forward”
