Match Report and Pics for Season 2024-2025
Match No 1:- Ashfield 3 Lanark United 2 - Saturday 6th July 2024 - KO 2.30pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG - Pre-Season Friendly.
New Manager Neil Schoneville and his Management Team had a considerable job to assemble virtually a new Team for the forthcoming Season and after a lot of hard work in the `Market` he managed to put out an exciting Team to play West of Scotland Division 3 Champions Lanark United at a sunny Stepford Park with a mixture of experience & exciting new Academy talent however after 5 minutes he knew that his job would take time as the visitors raced into a 2-0 lead courtesy of some excellent wing play from the `Yowes`. However once things settled down the `field started to get their passing game together and as the half wore on began to put the visitors under pressure & were unlucky not to reduce the deficit on 44 minutes when a Kyle Laughlin shot cannoned off the base of the post before Referee Mark Daly brought proceedings to a halt.
HT:- ASHFIELD 0 LANARK UTD 2
The second half following a couple of substitutions was all Ashfield as the hosts lay siege on the Lanark goal getting their reward midway through the half courtesy of a 20 yard strike from Craig Grierson. The young Ashfield team began to turn on the style as the half wore on with Aiden Tierney capping off a fine display with Ashfield`s equaliser 10 minutes ago. The `icing on the cake ` was left to ex-Benburb U20 starlet Sam Smith who picked up a loose ball in the box before finishing with aplomb to ensure an excellent display from the `field. A great work out for both clubs & we wish Lanark Utd all the best in Division 2, The `field now move onto Tuesday night and a home friendly with Forth Wanderers.

Match No 2:- Ashfield 3 Dalry Thistle 2 - Saturday 13th July 2024 - KO 2.30pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG - Pre-Season Friendly.
Another great work out at Stepford Park this afternoon against a hard working and skilful Dalry Thistle team as the countdown to the 27th July continues. The `field were sporting their traditional Black & White hoops with the visitors in their changed strip of Sky Blue & Dark Blue as Referee Chris McLaughlin got things underway. Both teams were closing each other down well in the opening exchanges however it was the visitors who looked dangerous with a couple of snaps shots which narrowly missed the upright. The Ashfield front pairing of Tierney & Findlay looked lively and it was Keiran Findlay who had a terrific shot on the twenty minute mark which missed the far post by inches. The home side started to assert themselves after this and shortly after went ahead courtesy of a lovely cut back from John Paul Seenan who picked out an onrushing Craig Quinn who finished with aplomb. Ashfield 1 Dalry Thistle 0. The visitors did not let this affect them and were utilising the flanks well with Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal called into action on a couple of occasions. The home side almost increased their lead when Tierney played in Aiden Tierney however the Ashfield No 10 shot narrowly wide of the post. With 10 minutes of the half remaining a foul inside the Ashfield box saw the Referee deem Craig Grierson`s tackle worthy of a spot kick however the award was brilliantly saved by Lochhead diving low to his left to parry the ball to safety. That was not the end of the drama as shortly after the Referee awarded a second penalty this time against Dominic Chiedhu. As the Kick was awarded the Ashfield Centre half trialist spoke out of turn to the Referee and was dismissed leaving the `field with 10 men for the remainder of the Friendly. Up stepped the Thistle centre forward Stevenson who drilled the ball past Lochhead who almost managed to keep it out. Ashfield 1 Dalry Thistle 1. The game was stopped for Half time shortly after with Neil Schoneville and his Management Team left having to `reshuffle the pack` to accommodate the loss of a player.
HT:- ASHFIELD 1 DALRY THISTLE 1
As it was, the reorganised Ashfield Team played very well in patches throughout the second half regularly bringing on substitutes to maximise the energy levels however on the hour mark found themselves behind following a lovely move from the Ayrshire Team. A mazy run down the left flank saw the Dalry Midfielder weave his way past a couple of defenders before cutting the ball back to an onrushing player who lashed the ball high past Lochhead to put Dalry 2-1 up. Ashfield 1 Dalry Thistle 2. Ashfield surged forward at every opportunity after this and within 5 minutes were level. The `field won a corner on the far side which was whipped into the front post. Ex St Anthony`s defender Craig Scott was first to react getting his head to the ball as it looped into the net to the delight of the home support. Game on again. Ashfield 2 Dalry Thistle 2. The game ebbed and flowed after this and the Dalry Keeper brought out a wonderful save with 8 minutes left on the clock tipping over a curling effort from Josh Moore. As the game looked to be heading for a `share of the spoils`, Ashfield substitute Ross McSorley took the ball into the box following a quick throw-in evading a couple of tackles before guiding the ball into the corner of the net to ensure Ashfield kept up their 100% record in Pre-Season so far following wins over Lanark Utd and Forth Wanderers. Ashfield 3 Dalry Thistle 2. The game was brought to a close shortly after & both teams can be happy with some aspects of their performance whilst recognising some areas for improvement before the first League game of the Season in now under 2 weeks.
We thank Dalry for today`s game and wish them all the best for the coming season.

Match No 3:- Glasgow Perthshire 0 Ashfield 2, Keppoch Park, Possilpark, Glasgow - Pre-Season Friendly - Wednesday 17th July 2024 - KO 7pm
Another 90 minutes `in the legs` for Ashfield as they strive to be fully fit for the opening League fixture next Saturday (27th) away to Kilbirnie Ladeside. This was a great work out against a very hard working and skilful Glasgow Perthshire Team who are also preparing quickly for their opening League Fixture at home to Finnart. A few changes were made to the Ashfield Line up following last weekend`s narrow victory against Dalry Thistle.
Referee James Duffy got the proceedings underway in front of a large crowd at Keppoch Park and both teams foraged forward at every opportunity in the early stages in a bid to make an early breakthrough. As it was chances were at a premium with the home side restricted to some long range shooting and the `field unable to make that `final` pass however as the the half wore on Ashfield started to get on top and were working the flanks well and made the breakthrough on the 25th minute. A lovely in-swinging corner to the front post was met by Kenzie McCrystal who guided his header into the back of the net to the delight of the visiting support. Glasgow Perthshire 0 Ashfield 1. The `shire pushed forward following this and Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal had to look lively on a couple of occasions however as we entered the end of the half it was Ashfield again who scored. This time, a lovely move in the box, following some intricate passing saw Kyle Laughlin side foot the ball past the `Shire Keeper to make it 2-0. Glasgow Perthshire 0 Ashfield 2. The Referee brought proceedings to a halt shortly after and the `field can be happy with their showing against difficult opponents.
HT:- PERTHSHIRE 0 ASHFIELD 2
As was the case in the first half chances were at a premium and following a couple of changes to both line-ups this continued throughout the second half. The `Shire back two were both ex-Ashfield players in Jack Crumlish and David Kirkwood and they worked hard throughout to keep Ashfield at bay. Following a few substitutions on the hour mark, Jack Taylor for Ashfield almost increased the lead however the home keeper produced a terrific stop to prevent a third. The home side were having a `real go` at this point with Ashfield hitting on the break and the home side were unfortunate on a number of occasions that following some excellent build up play Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal was not brought into action more. Kenzie McCrystal who was appearing as a trialist for the `field this evening was having a terrific match and almost got himself on the scoresheet again however his effort in the closing stages went narrowly past the post. The balmy evening had changed to a cold wind by the time Referee Duffy brought proceedings to a close and both teams can be happy with this excellent work out and we wish Perthshire all the best for the coming Season

Match No 4:- Kilbirnie Ladeside 4 Ashfield 0 , Valefield Park, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire - West of Scotland League Division 1 - Saturday 27th July 2024 - Kick-Off 2pm.
Warm sunshine greeted the players as they graced the lush surface at Valefield Park yesterday in the opening game of the Season and the big crowd were treated to an enthralling 90 minutes. The visitors, playing in their away strip of all Red, were looking to continue their excellent recent results against Kilbirnie but knew this game was going to be difficult as the home side were keen to get off to a better start than they did last Season.
As Referee Yazouk got proceedings underway it was Scott Lewis on the right flank who drove immediately down the right flank before despatching a cross which was deflected narrowly past the post as the home crowd roared their approval. Scott Lewis, unfortunately for Ashfield, was to play a very important part in the games outcome. The `field managed to produce a couple of last gasp tackles as the home side threatened to break the deadlock but after 10 minutes the `field gathered themselves and started to put their imprint on the game. Last years U20 Striker Aiden Tierney almost broke the deadlock for Ashfield when he gathered the ball on the edge of the box before delivering a lovely half volley which missed the upright by inches. Jack Taylor was next up for Ashfield as he tested Jamie McGowan in the Kilbirnie goal before Ashfield were awarded a penalty on 14 minutes. A lovely ball into Kieran Findlay saw the young Striker make room for himself and before he delivered a shot was brought down with the Referee having no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Jack Taylor stepped up and drilled the ball low and hard to the side only to see McGowan pull off a wonderful save to the delight of the home support. The `field were made to rue that miss as within 5 minutes the home side went ahead. A lovely ball to the far post evaded the Ashfield Keeper and the back two with the smallest person on the park Jon Scullion stooping low to bullet a diving header into the back of the net to put Kilbirnie ahead. Kilbirnie 1 Ashfield 0. The game became slightly stretched after this as Ashfield searched for an equaliser however as the half wore on it was the home side that began to get joy hitting Ashfield on the break with Lewis, Frizzell and Connolly all playing their part. There were a couple of contentious offside calls that the Referee had to make which were extremely difficult to call however on the stroke of half time the visitors broke quickly before Scullion played the ball through to an onrushing Frizzell who raced in on goal before cutting the ball back to Ryan Connelly who guided the ball past Lochhead to put the home side 2-0 up. A real blow for the `field right on the 45th minute. KilbIrnie 2 Ashfield 0. There wasn`t much time played after before the Referee brought proceedings to a halt with the visitors knowing they had a `mountain to climb` in the second half.
HT:- KILBIRNIE 2 ASHFIELD 0
There were no changes to the line ups for the start of the second half with the `field eager to `claw` their way back into the Match. A couple of early corners were well taken by McGowan in the home goal before disaster struck the visitors on the 48th minute. Scott Lewis had switched flanks for the second half and picked up the ball on the left side before cutting in and curling a shot from 22 yards into the far corner of the net to the delight of the home support. Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal did not have a chance as the home side now looked virtually out of sight. Kilbirnie 3 Ashfield 0. A real blow for the `field as they tried in vain to get back into the game however the game was over 5 minutes later when Scott Lewis again picked the ball up on the edge of the box before despatching a low and hard shot past Lochhead to put the home side further ahead. Kilbirnie 4 Ashfield 0. The `field made a couple of substitutions and stemmed the tide and for the next 20 minutes were on top however despite the pressure Jamie McGowan was not severely tested apart from a one handed tip over from a Jack Taylor shot. Craig Quinn and Nathaniel Black were making an impression as the visitors tested the home side but the final ball was missing as the home side counted down the clock. As it was there was no further scoring and as Referee Yazouk brought proceedings to a close there were certainly contrasting emotions to the respective teams as they trooped off the park. The `field will `dust themselves` down and `park` this result and take the positives from it as they now face another stern test on Tuesday night against Kilwinning Rangers. Kilbirnie meanwhile will be looking to carry on their excellent start at Rutherglen Glencairn.

Man of the Match:- A difficult day for the `field with not much `coming off`. It was certainly a `baptism of fire` for the younger players who performed tirelessly with Aiden Tierney the pick of the bunch. Jack Taylor played some lovely football in the first half but was unable to make the breakthrough.

Match Day No 5:- Ashfield 0 Kilwinning Rangers 2 - Tuesday 30th July 2024 - KO 8pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG - West of Scotland League Division 1.
A lovely balmy evening in the East end of Glasgow greeted the players onto the Stepford Park surface as Referee Scott McGregor got proceedings underway. Both teams had differing starts to the campaign with the visitors holding high flying Ardrossan to a draw whilst the `field were looking to `bounce back` from defeat at Kilbirnie. A couple of changes in the Ashfield line up saw Captain Jordan Duncan move into a Midfield berth alongside Craig Quinn and Kyle Laughlin and in the early stages Ashfield were hemming the `Buffs` in however the visiting defence was in good form and managed to counteract any danger from the flanks well. Ashfield had the first chance of the Match when young Aiden Tierney found some room just inside the box before firing in a low shot which was well saved by the Rangers Keeper. Next up and again it was Aiden Tierney as he was brought down on the edge of the box however the `field failed to capitalise on this good position. The visitors began to come into the game after the first 15 minutes and were passing the ball about well and a couple of low crosses to the far post by ex Ashfield player Josh Winton went begging. The game was played at a competitive pace however became a bit scrappy with Referee McGregor having to dish out some yellow cards to keep order. Chances were also at a premium with both defences on top. Ashfield kept on foraging forward at every opportunity and a couple of lovely moves were eventually `snuffed` out by the Buffs defence as the good sized crowd began to get impatient. As it was the Referee brought a cagey first half to a halt however the Crowd knew that things would `open up` in the second half.
HT:- ASHFIELD 0 KILWINNING RANGERS 0
Ashfield made one change to the line up bringing the pace of Nathaniel Black on as the `field set about trying to secure the win. As expected the game began to open up however following a midfield substitution for the `Buffs` it was the visitors that began to get some joy down the flanks firstly testing young Max Clarke in the Ashfield Goal. Aiden Tierney and Nat Black were trying to utilise their pace against a robust Rangers back four and as in the first half chances were not forthcoming apart from a couple of snapshots which sailed wide of the target. As the game continued to swing from one end to another, the deadlock was finally broken on the hour mark and it was the `Buffs` that took the lead. Mark Lamont on the left wing drove at the Ashfield defence before cutting in and despatching a curling cross come shot into the top corner of the net leaving Max Clarke with no chance to the delight of the travelling support. Ashfield 0 Kilwinning Rangers 1. A real opportunist strike which all of a sudden galvanised the visitors and a sweeping move 5 minutes later should have had the `Buffs` further ahead when a low driven cross from the right was drilled low and hard off Clarke`s right hand post before being cleared to safety. A real let-off for the `field however the Glasgow Team went up the park and within a couple of minutes were almost on level terms. A lovely move down the right saw Kyle Lauchlan break clear and his cross to the far post was met on the volley by Aiden Tierney with his ferocious shot agonisingly missing the upright by inches. Both teams made a number of substitutes on with Ashfield adding an additional forward in Dominik Chiedu and his presence made a difference. Ashfield tried to exert some sustained pressure however the visitors defended well and hit Ashfield well on the break & with 10 minutes to go should have sealed it when a similar move to the opening goal saw a wicked shot well saved by Clarke down to his left to keep the score at 1-0. With a couple of minutes left on a clock Ashfield threw `caution to the wind` and won a couple of set-pieces where virtually every player went into the Kilwinning box however at the second attempt it was the visitors that broke and Bemba managed to intercept the ball before rounding Clarke and guiding the ball into the empty net to the delight of the travelling fans. Ashfield 0 Kilwinning Rangers 2. The game was brought to a close shortly after and the points headed down the A737 to the disappointment of the home team. It is only early stages and there were some `crumbs of comfort` to take from this evening`s game for the home side as they prepare for a tough task away to Arthurlie this Saturday.

Match Day No 5:- Arthurlie 6 Ashfield 0, Dunterlie Park, Barrhead - Saturday 3rd August 2024 - KO 2pm - West of Scotland League Division 1
Another terrific day for Football and both teams were eager to get the Match started in the traditional surroundings of Dunterlie Park which was looking at its best today coupled with a large crowd in excess of 400. Ashfield were in their away strips of all `Red` as Referee Broadfoot got proceedings underway with the `field determined to get their first points of the Season & with the home side looking to continue in `top spot`. As it was the Match turned out differently than the visitors had hoped despite starting brightly. The `field were knocking the ball about well in the early stages however virtually with Arthurlie`s first major foray up the Park they went ahead. A nice move found Ben Roulison on the edge of the box and his finish into the top corner of the net left Max Clarke with absolutely no chance and the hosts were ahead after 5 minutes. Arthurlie 1 Ashfield 0. Ashfield pushed forward however the home side were boosted by the opening goal and were determined to increase their lead. A mazy run from Brophy on 9 minutes, evading a couple of tackles, found the ball on the left hand side of the box and picked up by Aaron Healy who cut inside before unleashing a dipping shot which hit the top corner of the net with aplomb leaving Max Clarke in the Ashfield goal with absolutely no chance. Arthurlie 2 Ashfield 0. The `field were slightly `shell shocked` at finding themselves 2-0 down without having done much wrong but the finishing had been of the highest standard to the delight of the home support. The `field kept on foraging forward at every opportunity but were unable to trouble the `lie Keeper and the Ashfield Keeper was called into action on a couple of occasions holding the ball well and also utilising his feet to clear the danger. Ashfield were getting some joy down the right flank with Nathaniel Black causing the Arthurlie right back some problems however the `field could not penetrate the `lie defence and ten minutes from half time the home side were awarded a free kick on the right hand side. The ball was `whipped` in finding an unmarked Sean Doherty and the Ex-Ashfield Captain guided his header past Clarke to put the home side 3-0 up. Arthurlie 3 Ashfield 0. A bad goal to lose defensively from Ashfield however this was compounded just before half time when Healy again caused problems down the left hand side before delivering a low hard ball across the face of the goal for Taylor to open his account for the Match to the roar of the home support. Arthurlie 4 Ashfield 0. A real blow to lose a 4th before Half time and as Referee Broadfoot brought proceedings to a halt, the visitors knew that would have to work their `socks off` in the second half to keep the rampant home side at bay.
HT:- ARTHURLIE 4 ASHFIELD 0
Ashfield brought on Kieran Findlay for Jack Taylor for the second half and the travelling support were looking forward to seeing the prolific U20`s Striker in action. Kieran had scorer 19 goals in the second half of last Season for the Development Team & the `field were looking to see what this exciting prospect could do. The game was played more in the midfield areas in the second half with Arthurlie`s front players restricted to any clear cut chances for a period. A couple of changes in Midfield midway through the second half also stabilised the `field with Clinton Onotu utilising his strength to good effect however Ashfield switched off for a minute before the hour mark which allowed a ball to be delivered in from the left hand side again with Taylor being first to react and rounded Clarke before squeezing the ball in from an acute angle to put the home side further ahead. Arthurlie 5 Ashfield 0. As the clock ticked towards the 90 minutes Onotu , playing in the Ashfield right hand side of Midfield committed a lunging tackle which was mistimed and the Referee had no hesitation in sending him off for an early shower. To cap off a bad afternoon for the visitors a 25 yard shot from Jordan Leyden three minutes from time took a wicked deflection wrongfooting the Ashfield Keeper to ensure the home side`s margin of victory was more emphatic. Arthurlie 6 Ashfield 0. Referee Stuart Broadfoot brought proceedings to a close shortly after to the applause of the home support for a very impressive display.
Ashfield`s first visit to Dunterlie Park in 10 years couldn`t have gone much worse and it was unfortunate that they could not build on a bright start however the timing of the goals, especially the 3rd and 4th which could have been avoided from an Ashfield point of view, left the young Team with a `mountain to climb`. A big learning curve for some of the players however it means that next Saturday`s game at home to Maybole takes on more importance and the Ashfield support will be fully behind them as they seek their first League points of the Season.

Match No 6:- Ashfield 2 Maybole 3 - Saturday 10th August 2024 - KO 2.30pm - West of Scotland League Division 1 - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG
Ashfield welcomed our regular visitors Maybole to Stepford Park with both teams going into the game on contrasting fortunes. The `field are currently building their new team with a good week in the training ground under their belts and the Ayrshire outfit `on a high` following their excellent 3-0 win over Ardrossan last Saturday. The weather was bright however there was a gale force wind blowing down the Park towards the East as Referee Barry Feery got the Match underway with Maybole backed by the wind in the first half. As it was it was the home side that started on the front foot with the ball holding up down the flanks as the front two of Ashfield looked extremely lively. A lovely through ball on the 3rd minute saw Nathaniel Black race clear of his marker only to be thwarted by the legs of Scott Johnstone in the Maybole goal. The visitors gained a couple of free kicks early on and hoisted their wind assisted deliveries into the Ashfield penalty box which caused the `field some problems however on the 10th minute Ashfield got their `noises ahead` and also their first League goal of the campaign after a lovely through ball saw Jamie McLean break clear of his marker and drove the ball past the advancing keeper the put the `field 1-0 up. A great finish from the Ex-Largs man. Ashfield 1 Maybole 0. You could see the confidence build in the Ashfield camp as they `piled` on the pressure with firstly McCrystal driving the ball low and hard across the face of goal before it was Kieran Findlay`s turn as the prolific Under 20`s striker volleyed the ball net-bound only to see the Maybole Keeper pull off a wonderful save to his right. The wind was showing no signs of abating as the visitors won a corner on the left hand side of the park on 22 minutes. Adam Miller whipped in the delivery to the front post however the ball was caught by the wind and before the Ashfield defender could react the ball had gone into the net. It was difficult to see if John Paul Seenan had touched the ball or if Miller had scored directly from a corner but one thing was for sure was that the game was level. Ashfield 1 Maybole 1. A blow for Ashfield after such a promising start however they didn`t let this affect them and within 3 minutes were ahead again. A lovely move saw McCrystal played in on the right hand side of the box and as he got his shot away he was taken down with the Referee having no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Up stepped McCrystal to send the Keeper the wrong way to put Ashfield ahead again. Ashfield 2 Maybole 1. Maybole came into the game after this for a spell with a number of free-kicks and long throw in`s causing alarm in the Ashfield rear-guard with the `field trying hard to `stem the flow` and with 31 minutes on the clock a poor pass back to Max Clarke saw the Ashfield Keeper just manage to clear the ball however was picked up on the right hand side by Maybole. The ball was whipped in and again it was Aaron Miller who managed to find space to direct his header into the far corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support. Ashfield 2 Maybole 2. The game ebbed and flowed after this right up until half time however on the 45th minute Ashfield had a wonderful chance to go in ahead following a lovely move down the right saw the ball driven low and hard across the goal by Craig Scott to the advancing Nathaniel Black however with the goal gaping the Ashfield winger hammered the ball against the underside of the crossbar before the ball was scrambled to safety. A real let off for the visitors as Referee Feery brought proceedings to a halt shortly after.
HT:- ASHFIELD 2 MAYBOLE 2
The talk amongst the supporters at half time was based around how Ashfield would play with the wind behind them and this was now a great opportunity for the home side to put pressure on the Ayrshire team. The `field made one change to the line up for the start of the half with Dominik Chiedu replacing John Paul Seenan as the Referee got the 2nd half underway. It was initially a `carbon copy` of the first half with the team facing the wind making `all the running` as Maybole swarmed forward at every opportunity and within 4 minutes of the kick-off were ahead. A lovely cross from the left hand side saw Robbie McCracken win the `aerial duel` to direct his header into the far corner of the net to put the visitors ahead. Ashfield 2 Maybole 3. A real blow for the home side who started the second half slowly. As it was the `field got into their stride, backed by the wind, and set about trying to salvage the Match however for the next 10-15 minutes were guilty of overhitting or choosing the wrong option with the Maybole rear-guard standing firm. Chances were at a premium in the second half with the best falling to Maybole on the break however following a couple of subs the `field began to make some `inroads`. Lasana Drammeh on the left was really `catching the eye` with his pace and urgency and midway through the half the Ex-Gala Fairydean winger was on the end of a lovely move as he bore down on goal only to be thwarted by the Maybole Keeper. Ashfield upped the pace again as the game headed for the closing stages however everything was a bit frantic and it was clear that the `field had not adapted to having the wind behind them as they struggled to sustain any long term pressure. A couple of minutes injury time was played before Referee Feery brought proceedings to a close to the delight of the travelling support. Ashfield were rightly disappointed at Full time as they had put in such a good display in the first half however must `dust themselves` down for the visit of Irvine Meadow to Stepford Park which already is looking like a `six-pointer`.

Man of the Match:- A really slick first half performance from Ashfield and should have gone in ahead at the interval but for a 45th Minute open goal miss and the conceding of two avoidable goals. Special mentions in the Second half to Substitutes Lasana Drammeh & Dominik Chiedu who put in excellent shifts.

Match No 7:- Ashfield 1 Irvine Meadow 1 , West of Scotland League Division 1 - Saturday 17th August 2024 - KO 2.30pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG
As the crowd filed into Stepford Park, the threat of rain and strong winds had diminished and although breezy was nowhere near the conditions which spoilt last week`s Match. This was the first Meeting between the teams since the 2012-13 Season when both teams won their home Matches however so far this Season both teams have found themselves in the lower reaches of the League table which Ashfield & the `Medda` were determined to improve on as Referee Jamie Andrews got proceedings underway. As it was the visitors started the busier side utilising the flanks well and the `field were given an early warning of the pace of Euan Baird on the left wing as he drove past Laughlin and drove the ball straight at Max Clarke in the Ashfield Goal. Ashfield were just finding their feet when the same player found room however his opportunity was blasted high over the Bar however the best chance came on the quarter hour mark after the same player cut the ball back into the penalty box finding Lewis Neilson who connected well but found Max Clarke in excellent form as the young Ashfield Keeper held the ball with aplomb. The `field began to get some joy down the flanks also after some lovely play from Lasana Drammeh on the left and various players on the right side as the `field began to exert some sustained pressure from corners and from Dom Chiedhu`s long throw-ins. Kieran Findlay made some room for himself as the Match approached half time and had two good efforts saved by the Meadow Keeper. As the game approached the 43rd Minute, the visitors were given a free kick on the left circa 22 yards out which was `whipped` in to the edge of the six yard box finding the head of Lewis Neilson who diverted the ball into the net despite an almighty coming together of players. The upshot was that Ashfield`s Centre half was left bloodied with a split eye & Max Clarke with a split jaw. It took the Physios a number of minutes to attend to the players and we thank the Irvine Meadow Physio for his assistance also with Dominik Chiedu being unable to continue and Max Clarke `stitched up`. Ashfield 0 Irvine Meadow 1. The game eventually restarted with the visitors ahead as the Referee indicated added on time to be played. Nathaniel Black came on for Ashfield with Jordan Duncan going into the back four and with Nathaniel`s first touch the game was level. A lovely mazy run down the left from McCrystal saw the Ashfield forward curl the ball to the far post where an onrushing Nathaniel Black guided his header into the corner of the net to the delight of the home support. An important goal for the `field. Ashfield 1 Irvine Meadow 1. The Referee brought proceedings to a close shortly after with the Crowd looking forward to seeing how the second half would turn out.

The second half started off in the same vein as the first with the visitors knocking the ball about well and trying to utilise the flanks to break down Ashfield however the `field back four defended resolutely throughout and limited the `Medda` to shooting from outside the box. Ashfield were also linking up well as the half wore on however the game was lacking clear cut chances with defences on top. A lovely move on the hour mark saw the visitors drive the ball narrowly over from just outside the box however the best chance of the second half fell to the `Medda` No 9 after a lovely move down the right saw the ball played in where a bulleted header was brilliantly stopped by Max Clarke in the Ashfield goal and cleared to safety. With 15 minutes to go the `field had a great chance to take the lead. Lasana Drammeh on the left flank weaved his way past a couple of defenders before the Ex-Gala Fairydean winger was brought down just inside the box with Referee Andrews pointing to the spot. Up stepped Kenzie McCrystal following his successful penalty last week against Maybole however this time he went to the other side and although hitting it hard the Medda Keeper pulled off an excellent save to the delight of the travelling support. A big chance for the `field as the game entered its final stages. The game swung from end to end with a couple of bookings `dished out` and the home support had to ensure a couple of nervous moments as the visitors had a couple of corners in injury time which were well defended to ensure a `share of the spoils` at Stepford Park. The `field will be delighted to come off the basement position and competed well against Irvine Meadow and are showing steady improvement week on week. The `field now have a break next week before heading to Robertson Park to play Thorniewood United at the end of the Month.

Man of the Match:- A good performance from Ashfield today against lively and pacy opponents. Special mentions to Jamie McLean and Captain Jordan Duncan for competing so well in Midfield. Chiedu and Forbes were really steady at the back and the front three looked good however Max Clarke , despite being involved in the` collision` for the `Medda` Goal was outstanding throughout pulling off a number of wonderful saves.

Match No 8:- Ashfield 3 Thorniewood United 5 , West of Scotland League Division 1, Saturday 31st August 2024 - Kick-Off 2.30pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG
It was great to get back to competitive football after the `field`s `lay off` from the League following fixture amendments and welcomed a very experienced Thorniewood United side to a sunny Stepford Park where the 100+ Crowd were treated to a tremendous Match with goals -a-plenty. Due to injuries and unavailability the home side were forced into a number of changes following their last Match against Irvine Meadow (1-1) however the changes worked extremely well for the first 70 minutes until the `field were `robbed` of the services of their two most influential players due to injury.
Referee Steven Clark got the game underway with the `field sporting their traditional strip of Black & White Hoops and the visitors playing in Blue tops and Black Shorts. The game started off at a great pace with both teams cancelling each other out before Ex-Ashfield player Bobby Barr on his first return to Stepford since leaving in the Summer curled a shot narrowly over. Ashfield looked dangerous up front in their early exchanges with Tierney linking up well with McCrystal and a couple of early shots from the `field were well saved by the `wood Keeper however just as the home side were beginning to get up `a head of steam`, the visitors went ahead following a lovely move down the left which saw the ball played into the box. Ross Forbes was first to react and despite being closely marked managed to put the ball through to an onrushing Kindlan who drilled the ball low and hard past the despairing arms of Max Clarke to put the `wood ahead. Ashfield 0 Thorniewood United 1. A blow for Ashfield however they did not let this affect them and a couple of efforts from Lewis Brown on the left hand side caused concern to the visitors. Ashfield were knocking the ball about well at this point and got their reward on the 25th minute following some excellent play down the right wing with the ball played into McCrystal 12 yards out. The Ashfield striker made room for himself before despatching a shot past the advancing `wood Keeper to level the scores. Ashfield 1 Thorniewood United 1. The game then went from one end to another with both teams desperate to get their `noses in front` before the interval. Thorniewood upped the pace slightly and the `field were guilty of giving away too many free-kicks in `dangerous` areas. The home side were given a warning when a Ross Forbes Free-Kick from 22 yards out missed the upright by inches and shortly after the same player stepped up again as another free-kick was given to the visitors which was more central this time. Up stepped the Ex-Motherwell player and he whipped the ball into the top corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support. Ashfield 1 Thorniewood United 2. It was `game on` again as the home side foraged forward at every opportunity and after a couple of half chances were level on 42 minutes. A lovely ball from Josh Moore into the box found Kenzie McCrystal with his back to goal however Ashfield`s top scorer swivelled and drilled a shot into the corner of the net to the roar of the home support. An excellent goal from Kenzie and Ashfield were back level. Ashfield 2 Thorniewood United 2. The game ebbed and flowed from one end to another right up until the half time whistle as both teams trooped off for well earned hydration as the sun shone down on proceedings.
HT:- ASHFIELD 2 THORNIEWOOD UTD 2
The home side came out in the second half and took the game to the visitors however had to be extremely wary of being `hit on the break`. Dylan Martin & Josh Moore in the middle of the park were winning their fair share of the ball and feeding the Ashfield forwards well. McCrystal for Ashfield had a couple of long range shots before the `field almost went ahead on 55 minutes. A lovely move down the right saw Dylan Martin drive into the box before the ball was played through to Josh Moore on the edge of the six yard box however his shot was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the Thorniewood Keeper to the anguish of the home support. The home fans however didn`t have to wait much longer as the `field went ahead on 64 minutes. Josh Moore picked up the ball 30 yards out & ran at the visiting defence before playing a 1-2 with McCrystal and placing a left foot drive into the corner of the net to spark scenes of celebration in the home dug outs, amongst the players and supporters. Ashfield 3 Thorniewood United 2. The home side were determined to add to their lead and forced a number of corners which were well defended however as the half wore on it was the visitors, inspired by Forbes and Barr, that got themselves back in the game. The `field were dealt an injury blow to their Captain Jordan Duncan and he was replaced by Ashfield U20`s Team Captain Cameron McIntyre with Craig Forbes going to right back however with 20 minutes to go the visitors drew level. Bobby Barr picked up the ball on the left flank before cutting in and driving to the edge of the Ashfield box before unleashing a 22 yard drive into the top corner of the net leaving Clarke with absolutely no chance. A blow for Ashfield however a stunning strike which we have all seen from Barr before. Ashfield 3 Thorniewood United 3. It was a great spectacle for the crowd as the game swung from end to end however following a couple of substitutes from the visitors and an injury to Josh Moore in Midfield the visitors began to exert some sustained pressure and with 8 minutes to go Bobby Barr broke clear and cut in virtually on the bye-line before drilling the ball low and hard across the goal for an onrushing Walsh who drilled the ball past a ruck of players and into the net to put the visitors ahead. Ashfield 3 Thorniewood United 4. Ashfield pushed forward at every opportunity after this however it was Thorniewood that had their `tails up` and as the clock ticked towards Full time a lovely move down the right this time saw the ball played through to substitute Archer who clipped the ball past Max Clarke and into the corner of the net to ensure the points were heading to Lanarkshire. Ashfield 3 Thorniewood United 5. As Referee Clark brought proceedings to a close shortly after the `field trooped off knowing that they given their `all` and if they can continue this progress then their first victory will not be long in coming. Thorniewood were extremely clinical in their finishing today and have a very experienced team full of Ex-senior Players and on their day are difficult to handle.
Another home game for Ashfield next week as we welcome St Roch`s to Stepford before the `field move onto Cup Action for a couple of weeks.

Match No 9:- Ashfield 1 St Roch`s 1, Saturday 7th September 2024 - 2,30pm KO - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG - West of Scotland League Division 1
Late summer sunshine greeted the Teams for yesterday`s League encounter as the crowd poured into the small surroundings of Stepford Park. Ashfield were playing in their traditional strip of Black & White hoops with St Roch`s in their Green Striped Strip as Referee Thomas Denholm got proceedings underway. The home side going into the Match were buoyed by their recent performances especially last week`s game against Thorniewood Utd albeit without picking the points up however the visitors were sitting on joint 4th Position after a very impressive start to the Season and it was St Roch`s who made the early running utilising the right flank well in particular. A couple of early balls into the Ashfield penalty box were fiercely contested & the `field back four knew they would be in for a tough 90 minutes however after only 4 minutes on the clock they `assisted` the visitors in taking the lead. An aerial pass-back into the penalty spot area saw Jordan Thompson first to react as he `cushioned` a header over the advancing Max Clarke and into the net to the delight of the large travelling support. Ashfield 0 St Roch`s 1. A disappointing start for the home team however they `dusted themselves down` pretty quickly and did not let this affect their play. The Match was a tight affair during the first half with the `field pushing forward where possible however the St Roch`s Midfield & defence were on top at this stage and Max Clarke had to deal with two shots from outside the box diverting both of them around the post to keep the `field in `touching distance`. As from the half hour mark however the home side began to get their passing rhythm going and Lasana Drammeh began to cause the `Candy Rock` back four some problems coupled with the young front two of Tierney and Findlay who began to look extremely lively and Stark in the visitor`s goal had to deal well with a shot from Aiden Tierney as the game approached the half time mark. As it was the chances remained at a premium with the game rather `cagey` at this stage however that was all to change in the second half.
HT:- ASHFIELD 0 ST ROCH`S 1
The `field were forced to `reshuffle` the pack slightly as Centre Half Kelvin Daniel was unable to continue and young Lewis Brown took a starting position on the right hand side of Midfield with Captain Josh Moore going back into defence to assist Dom Chiedu. The home side started the second half extremely well and for the first 10 minutes pinned back the visitors with a succession of corners and long throw-ins and were unlucky not to equalise on the hour mark when a looping header crashed off Stark`s crossbar before being cleared to safety. Next up was Lasana Drammeh who got on the end of a cross only to see his net bound header blocked. Ashfield eventually got their reward midway through the half following a corner from St Roch`s who had pushed everyone forward. The `field managed to defend the award well with the ball breaking out to Kieran Findlay who raced forward with Lasana, Aiden and Lewis Brown in support. As he approached the penalty box he cut and delivered a fierce shot which was brilliantly stopped by Stark however the ball broke out to an onrushing Lewis Brown who guided the ball into the corner of the net to the delight of the home support. Ashfield 1 St Roch`s 1. It was `game on` now with both sides having a `go` at each other with the pendulum swinging regularly. Ex-Ashfield Players Ben Daily & substitute Sean Slaven were making their presence felt with Ben especially testing Ashfield down the left flank however at this stage the better chances were falling to Ashfield. A lovely move from the home side as the clock ticked towards 90 minutes saw the ball played to Aiden Tierney 22 yards out and his low driven shot hit the inside of the post and bounced to safety to the anguish of the home team. The woodwork then was hit again following a cross ball before it was St Roch`s turn when Steffan Graham picked the ball up on the left side before cutting in, evading a couple of tackles and despatching a curling shot which crashed off Max Clarke`s Bar as Ben Daily blasted the ball over the Bar. A couple of further chances for both teams ensured a frantic and exciting finish for the large crowd before Referee Denholm brought proceedings to a close and a `share of the spoils`. The Match was played, particularly in the second half at some pace and was a really sporting affair and a great advert for First Division Football.
The League takes a `break` now with both Teams in South Challenge Cup & Scottish Junior Cup duty with the `Candy Rock` representing the West against two East sides in Easthouses Lily and Tranent FC where the `field make the journey to Fife to play Lochore Welfare FC before entertaining form side Thorn Athletic at Lochburn Park, Maryhill. League action commences back on the 28th of the Month with the `field heading to Ardrossan WR and St Roch`s entertaining Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

Man of the Match:- A very good team display from Ashfield with everyone working `their socks off` against a tough opponent however the second half display was excellent with special mentions to Josh Moore, Kaine McFarlane, Lasana Drammeh & the front `two` however this week`s award is shared between Max Clarke who pulled off a number of really good saves especially in the first half and Dylan Martin who won more than his fair share in the middle of the park against experienced players.

Match Day 10:- Lochore Welfare FC 2 Ashfield FC 1 (After Extra Time), Central Park, Main Street, Crosshill Fife KY5 8AN - South Challenge Cup 2nd Round - Saturday 14th September 2024 - KO 2.30pm
The `field made their first trip to Fife since a Scottish Junior Cup Match at Thornton almost a decade ago and Neil Schoneville`s young team were determined to emulate Ashfield`s performance of last Season, where they reached the Quarter Final before losing out narrowly to East Kilbride.
The visitors, playing in their home strip of Black & White hoops, entered the neat surroundings of Central Park with the home team sporting their all Red outfit. Referee Calum Foreman got proceedings underway with a ferocious wind sweeping across the park however this did not affect the home side as they took advantage of a sloppy start from the `field. A short pass-back from young Kaine McFarlane after 90 seconds on the clock was intercepted by the Lochore Centre Forward who got ahead of the advancing Blair Lochhead before rounding the Ashfield Keeper and clipping the ball net bound only to see a last gasp clearance from Dom Chiedu to rescue the visitors. This was unfortunately for Ashfield only a warning as within another 90 seconds they were a goal down after lovely build up play from the home side with the ball breaking out to a Lochore Midfielder who drove the ball low and hard on the half volley which sailed past Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal to the delight of the home support. Lochore W 1 Ashfield 0. It was evident after playing their last 4 games on artificial grass that Ashfield were taking a wee while adapting back to grass as the game continued at a frantic pace early on. As the half wore on Ashfield came more into the game however were aware of the home side`s aerial presence from set-pieces and cross balls. A lovely free-kick from Ashfield Captain Josh Moore looked to have levelled proceedings however the whipped free-kick missed the far corner by inches with the Keeper stranded. A couple of lovely crosses from Aiden Tierney and Lasana Drammeh were flicked on inside the box by Kieran Findlay however the home keeper was alert on both occasions as Ashfield foraged forward at every opportunity. The game was well contested in midfield and the Referee was keen to let the game flow. As it was despite the second part of the half being won by Ashfield in terms of possession, chances were at a premium against a hard working Lochore defence and the crowd knew that the game would be extremely interesting in the second half.
HT:- LOCHORE W 1 ASHFIELD 0
There were no changes to the visitors line up for the start of the second half as the `field took an early grip on proceedings with the wide players causing some problems however similar to the first half clear chances were at a premium despite the `field having the bulk of possession. A couple of snap shots from Tierney and Jamie McLean, playing in an unfamiliar role of right back failed to trouble the home keeper and midway through the second half there were a couple of changes made with Dylan Martin having to go off injured and Aiden Tierney was replaced up front by Ex-Benburb player Samuel Smith. A couple of long throw-ins and corners caused problems for the home side and shortly after with circa 20 minutes to go Ashfield got the equaliser. A cross ball into the middle was only partially cleared by the Lochore Keeper as the `field won the 2nd ball. The loose ball was gathered by Sam Smith who swivelled and drove a shot through a ruck of players and into the net to the delight of the travelling support. Lochore W 1 Ashfield 1. It was `game on` now and the visitors had their `tails up` however to their credit Lochore fought back well and ensured a frantic finish with the game going from one end to another before Referee Foreman brought proceedings to a halt and 30 minutes of extra time.
FT:- LOCHORE W 1 ASHFIELD 1
It was the home side`s turn to have the bulk of possession for a while as the wind strengthened and Referee Foreman started to distribute some Cards as the game became scrappy. There was not much goal mouth action at this stage with the home side utilising their substitutes as did Ashfield with Craig Grierson coming on in midfield. Following the 15 minute `turnraround` Kaine McFarlane on the left hand side was adjudged to have fouled the Lochore winger and was given an early bath for a second yellow Card. As the `field were trying to re-group the home side took full advantage whipping the ball into the far post where the Ashfield right back, who had played well, took a strong touch to the ball and laid the ball up for Michael Watt who lashed the ball into the roof of the net to the roar of the home support. Lochore W 2 Ashfield 1. Ashfield knew they were within 10 minutes of going out the Cup and threw `caution the wind` as they camped inside the visitors half with Dom Chiedu moving up front to assist the strikers. As it was the home defence held firm despite giving away a number of free-kicks which resulted in the home side being reduced to 10 men also and as Referee Foreman blew for full time, the `field will now have to concentrate on the Scottish Junior Cup next Saturday.
We wish Lochore Welfare all the best in the next round and thank them for their excellent hospitality.

Man of the Match:- A hard working performance from Ashfield which fell short on the offensive front on the day. It was however a well managed back four ably marshalled by Dom Chiedu who kept the Fife team `at bay` for most of the Match with the exception of the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes

Match Day 11:- Ashfield 2 Thorn Athletic 5 - 2nd Round Scottish Junior Cup - Saturday 21st September 2024 - KO 2.30pm - Lochburn Park, Maryhill, Glasgow.
Another break from the League this week and a welcome to Thorn Athletic for their first ever Scottish Junior Cup tie. The Match had been moved to one of the best Junior Grounds in Glasgow - Lochburn Park, Maryhill and the healthy attendance were treated to a very enjoyable Cup tie indeed especially if you were a visiting supporter.
Neil Schoneville set up his Ashfield Team with 3 changes to the team that started in Fife last week with Max Clarke, Craig Forbes and `in form` Cael Gibb, who had scored 9 goals in his last 3 games for the U20s side, all starting. Thorn Athletic, playing in their away strip of all yellow arrived in confident mood following last week`s Cup victory against another Fife Team coupled with the fact that they are sitting comfortably at the top of their League at present.
The game started off at a great pace with both teams trying to assert their authority and after an initial `sparring` period it was the visitors that started to cause the Ashfield defence problems and with 8 minutes gone went ahead when Ross Denny broke clear of his markers, initially being thwarted by a good save from Max Clarke however the rebound was despatched into the back of the net to put the Third Division side ahead. Ashfield 0 Thorn Athletic 1. A bad start for the `field and to compound the misery they were dealt a further blow when the men from Johnstone went further ahead 2 minutes later courtesy of the same goal-scorer to the angst of the home support. Ashfield 0 Thorn Athletic 2. This goal shook the `field into action and they started to get their passing game `into gear` with McFarlane and Moore spreading the ball about well. Lasana Drammeh on the left hand side began to get some good crosses in and within a couple of minutes a lovely move found Kieran Findlay on the edge of the box and the Ashfield Striker took a couple of steps forward before despatching a left foot drive past the arms of Tennant in the Thorn Goal and into the corner of the net. A great first goal of the Season for Kieran. Ashfield 1 Thorn Athletic 2. It was `game on ` now and the game had a real `cup tie` feel to it as the pendulum swung from one end to another. The `field thought they had levelled on 35 minutes when Josh Moore whipped in a free-kick on the left finding an onrushing Kelvin Daniel who bulleted a header from 8 yards out only to see Sam Tennant pull off a magnificent save to thwart Ashfield. The visitors however were foraging forward at every opportunity also and a couple of saves from Max Clarke and an excellent interception from Craig Forbes ensured the game went into the interval without further scoring.
HT:- ASHFIELD 1 THORN ATHLETIC 2
As Referee Eddie Henderson got proceedings underway for the second half the crowd knew that there would be more goals to come based on the first half chances created and this time it was the home side that started on the front foot winning a number of free-kicks and long thrown-ins however the deliveries into the box were well defended by the Thorn defence. On the hour mark the game had a significant change when influential Centre Half Kelvin Daniel limped off for Ashfield in some considerable pain and within a couple of minutes the visitors took full advantage when an in-swinging corner saw Niall Cannon outjump the Ashfield rear-guard to put Thorn 3-1 ahead to the delight of their travelling support. Ashfield 1 Thorn Athletic 3. A double-blow for Ashfield however their attempt to try and get back in the Match was thwarted 5 minutes later when a dreadful mix-up by the Ashfield Keeper on the edge of the box saw the ball `robbed` from him by the Thorn No 9 Euan Rodger and he knocked the ball into the empty net to ensure that there would be no way back for the `field this time. Ashfield 1 Thorn Athletic 4. The Ashfield Management Team made a couple of substitutes to try and galvanise the Team however they were left with a `mountain to climb` and all existing hope was dashed with 10 minutes to go when Ross Denny started and finished off a lovely move before rounding Max Clarke and clipping the ball into the net from an acute angle for his hat-trick. Ashfield 1 Thorn Athletic 5. To their credit Ashfield fought right to the end and were rewarded when a lovely move down the right flank involving substitute Lewis Brown who whipped over a low hard cross to an onrushing Jamie McLean who finished with aplomb for his 2nd goal of the Season. Ashfield 2 Thorn Athletic 5. The game still went from end to end right up until the final whistle and both teams deserve credit for an enjoyable 90 minutes. Make no mistake, Thorn won this tie well and played an exciting and attacking brand of Football which will stand them in good stead for their Promotion push to the Second Division.
For the `field, it`s back to the `bread and butter` of League business and to ensure they `park` this result and take the positives out of it when preparing for next week`s visit to Ardrossan.
Thorn Athletic will now travel to Perth in the next Round to take on Letham FC and we wish them all the best for the remainder of the Season.

Match No 12:- Ardrossan Winton Rovers 7 Ashfield 3 , Saturday 28th September 2024 - KO 2pm - Valefield Park, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire - West of Scotland League Division 1
The lovely surroundings of Valefield Park greeted the Players of Ardrossan WR and Ashfield onto the lush surface as Referee Evan Morgan got proceedings underway in this crucial West of Scotland League 1 encounter. The `field, playing in their away strip of all Red & Black trim, were determined to seal the points this afternoon which would `haul` them to within 2 points of their hosts with a game in hand however with the home side`s first through ball the `field found themselves a goal down. Aidan Ferris playing up front for the hosts got a yard on Kelvin Daniel and drove into the box before guiding an effort past the advancing Lochhead to put the Rovers ahead after only 2 minutes. A bad goal for the `field to lose so early in the game but a great start for the home side. Ardrossan WR 1 Ashfield 0. The game settled down after a frantic start and both sides were having a real `go` at each other. A terrific move down the right hand side saw a Lewis Brown shot saved by Fraser Young in the Rovers goal palming the ball up in the air with young Aiden Tierney first to react and his header was brilliantly saved again by the Rovers Keeper to keep the hosts ahead. Next up was Mark Curragh for Ardrossan as he volleyed a ball from the edge of the box which was well saved by Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield Goal. The front three of Ardrossan were extremely lively with Ex-Ardeer Thistle player Ryan Wilson linking well with Curragh and Ferris who were pulling the Ashfield defence all over the place. Ashfield, themselves were looking good up front and after some excellent play down the right flank by Lewis Brown on 22 minutes the ball was cut back to the edge of the box for Aiden Tierney who drove a low shot into the far corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support. A terrific goal from the young Striker and it was `game on`. Ardrossan WR 1 Ashfield 1. The `field went on to have their best period of the Match and chances fell to Dom Chiedu with a header, a curling shot from Jamie McLean which narrowly missed the upright and an effort from Josh Moore who was having a great tussle in Midfield with Finlay Frye. The home side however began to put the `field under sustained pressure as the half was drawing to a close & the `field were given an almighty scare when Dom Chiedu got on the wrong side of Ryan Wilson, pulling down the striker on the edge of the box. It was a close decision whether it was a penalty or not however Referee Morgan opted for a Free-Kick & a booking for Chiedu. With a minute until half time Ferris drove into the Ashfield box however with only having the one look at it, it appeared to have been a good tackle by young Kaine McFarlane however the Referee after deliberating pointed to the spot despite the Ashfield players protests. Up stepped Finlay Frye who sent the Ashfield Keeper the wrong way to put the Rovers ahead. Ardrossan WR 2 Ashfield 1. As the game went into injury time in the first half the game was `turned on its head` in favour of the hosts following a lovely break away down the right flank to Wilson who managed to whip in a ball right across the face of the goal finding an onrushing Aidan Ferris who guided the ball into the far corner of the net to the delight of the home support. A real blow for the visitors to lose a goal so late in the half. Ardrossan WR 3 Ashfield 1. Things could have got worse for Ashfield before Referee Morgan brought first half proceedings to a close when Ferris appeared to be fouled just inside the box however the protests of the home players were waved aside.
HT:- ARDROSSAN WR 3 ASHFIELD 1
Certainly the first half had been full of action and the visitors could feel a bit sorry for themselves at the score-line after playing so well however on the other side a second penalty could have gone to the Rovers in added time so the next goal was vital as the game started with no changes to either line up. It was the men from Ayrshire that began to get a stranglehold on the game and within 5 minutes were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box following a couple of corners. Up stepped Finlay Frye and he drove the ball into the Roof of the net to the roar of the home support. Ardrossan WR 4 Ashfield 1. The visitors were rather `shell shocked` after this however to their credit clawed their way back into the game. The front two of Ashfield continued to look lively and won a corner on the right hand side. Young Kaine McFarlane whipped a curling corner to the front post and despite the attempts of the Rovers Keeper the ball crossed the line to pull one back for Ashfield. Ardrossan WR 4 Ashfield 2. The Crowd were certainly getting value for their money as the game ebbed and flowed however with 20 minutes left on the clock, Ashfield collapsed losing 3 goals in a crazy 10 minute period. In the 70th minute Ardrossan won a free-kick on the left hand side which was curled into the box with Mark Curragh getting the faintest of flick-ons to wrong foot Lochhead and put the Rovers 5-2 ahead. Ardrossan WR 5 Ashfield 2. A couple of minutes later and the hosts won a corner on the left which was delivered to the far post with everyone missing it apart from the Ashfield Centre Half Kelvin Daniel with the ball hitting his thigh and going into his own net to make it 6. Ardrossan WR 6 Ashfield 2. This was the `cue` for Neil Schoneville to change things bringing on 4 substitutes to try and make an impact with 15 minutes to go however just as they were all adjusting to the game Ryan Wilson, who had been a real handful throughout, picked the ball up just outside the box before driving past a couple of defenders and lashing the ball past Lochhead to further increase Ashfield`s misery. Ardrossan WR 7 Ashfield 2. Although the game was `dead and buried` the Glasgow team continued to play some nice stuff and capitalised on a Goalkeeping error when Kieran Findlay blocked a clearance from the Rovers Keeper knocking the ball into the empty net. A small crumb of comfort for the travelling support. Ardrossan WR 7 Ashfield 3. There was not much injury time played before the Referee brought proceedings to a close.
It`s back to Cup Action next week in the West of Scotland Cup First round with the `field welcoming Neilston next Saturday to Stepford and Ardrossan welcoming Top of the Premiership Table Clydebank.
We would like to thank Ardrossan for their excellent hospitality yesterday.

Man of the Match:- Although the score-line does not look good, Ashfield played pretty well for long spells of the Match however a combination of poor defending and clinical finishing from Ardrossan ensured a heavy defeat for the `field. Special mentions to Lewis Brown and the front two of Aiden Tierney and Kieran Findlay who could have scored more on the day however Josh Moore kept the `field in the game with some lovely through balls to the Strikers.

Match No 13:- Ashfield 2 Neilston FC 2 (Ashfield won 6-5 on Penalties), Saturday 5th October 2024 - Kick Off 2.30pm. Indigo Comms West of Scotland First Round - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG
This was Ashfield`s first game back at Stepford since the 7th September when the `field drew 1-1 with St Roch`s. This time Ashfield welcomed the players, Management and Supporters of Neilston FC in the Indigo Comms West of Scotland Cup 1st Round and the healthy crowd were treated to an enthralling 90 minutes.
Referee Luke McCauley got proceedings underway with the hosts playing in their traditional strip and Neilston in their changed strip of All Red. The visitors came in to the game on the back of some excellent results scoring 14 goals in their last two fixtures and sitting nicely placed in 2nd Place in Division 2 however the `field have had the better of the recent matches between the teams winning the last three. The game started brightly however the defences were on top in the early stages with both teams guilty of some disappointing passing and holding up of the ball. The player `catching the eye` in the early stages was the experienced Del McNab who was running into dangerous positions and was holding the ball up well and it came as no surprise that the first real chance of the game saw the Neilston No 9 break clear of his markers only to find Max Clarke in excellent form in the Ashfield goal. The game began to pick after this and the home side looked threatening on the flanks with the pace of Lasana Drammeh prevalent as the young Winger had a couple of efforts blocked. Kieran Findlay was also linking up well and a couple of shots failed to test the Neilston Keeper. Next up was Del McNab who evaded the Ashfield offside trap and found himself boring down on goal only to see Max Clarke again thwart the Neilston forward with a terrific save. The `Farmer Boys` would come to regret this as within a few minutes the home side took the lead. Young Lasana Drammeh on the left wing picked the ball up before driving into the box and after evading a couple of tackles was through on the Keeper. He then rounded Joshua Gilmartin before slotting in a wonderful solo effort to put the `field 1-0 ahead. Ashfield 1 Neilston 0. A great individual goal from the Ex-Gala Fairydean Winger. Now the home side this season have been guilty of not holding onto leads and looked determined to do so today however within 5 minutes the game was all-square. A mistake midway inside their own half gave possession to Neilston with the ball being threaded through to McNab who again brought out a good save from Clarke however this time the ball broke out to an onrushing Robert Wilson who guided the ball into the corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support. Ashfield 1 Neilston 1. It was `game on` now and both sides were having a `go` at each other however it was the home side who finished the half the stronger and were unlucky not to go ahead at the interval when the Ashfield Captain Josh Moore curled a lovely left foot shot which agonisingly crashed off the crossbar and was cleared to safety. As it was the game went in all square at the interval with a lot to look forward to in the second half.
HT:- ASHFIELD 1 NEILSTON 1
There were no changes to either line up for the second half as the game again started off at great pace. After an initial `sparring` period it was the home side that began to cause the visitors problems through the pace of Drammeh, ably supported by Amhanre on the left flank and Lewis Brown and Kieran Findlay on the right flank and a couple of low balls across the six yard box narrowly missed an onrushing Ashfield forward. A couple of corners for Ashfield almost proved fruitful when following a half cleared delivery the ball was met by Kieran Findlay on the volley and his net-bound effort was deflected against the post to the relief of the visitors. The game became rather `open` for a period and swung from one end to another with a number of players falling victim to the Referee`s yellow card including the dug out areas. As the Match entered the final 10 minutes the `field eventually got their reward when a lovely move saw Kieran Findlay pick up the ball on the edge of the box before despatching a shot which was initially blocked however the Ashfield youngster was quick to react and drilled the rebound low and hard into the far corner to spark scenes of celebration amongst the Players, Management and supporters. This was Kieran`s 2nd goal in as many Matches and the prolific goal-scorer for the U20s Development Team last Season was beginning to `find his feet` at this level. Ashfield 2 Neilston 1. The goal sparked a reaction from Neilston and Max Clarke had to deal with a fierce shot from outside the box which he tipped round the post. Ashfield had brought on young Andrew Carruthers from the U20s side and had moved Daniel Amhanre up front and the `field were looking to hit the visitors on the break and a couple of cross balls again almost proved successful for the home side. However with 2 minutes left on the clock the visitors were awarded a free kick on the right hand side 22 yards out. The ball was whipped in to the far post and Del McNab outjumped his marker to bullet home an equaliser to the roar of the travelling support. A well taken goal from Neilston`s point of view. Ashfield 2 Neilston 2. The home side tried to `up the tempo` before Full time however defences remained on top and the game then went to penalties to decide who would host Cumnock in the 2nd Round.

Match No 14:- Maybole 2 Ashfield 1 , Saturday 12th October 2024 - KO 2pm - West of Scotland League Division 1 - Ladywell Stadium, Dailly Road, Maybole, Ayrshire KA19 7AU
Ashfield headed down to South Ayrshire buoyed by last week`s progress in the West of Scotland Cup against a good Neilston team and the next step was to try and get the first League win under their belt at a Ground which has been kind to them over recent years. Maybole, however are `flying high` near the top of the League after some excellent results and the `field knew they would be in for another tough test. The game earlier this Season in Glasgow had been a close affair.
Again the Ladywell Stadium had undergone further improvements since the `field`s last visit and the Committee have to be applauded for the work that has been completed. What was prevalent this time around was the state of the pitch and despite earlier `deluges` was in immaculate condition.
Referee McGregor got proceedings underway with both teams in their traditional strips and the healthy crowd knew they were in for an exciting game as both teams attacked each other from the Kick-Off. Lasana Drammeh continued where he had left off last week and was weaving past defenders and bringing the Ashfield players into the game however as the `sparring` period was over the home side began to exert some sustained pressure especially from set pieces and corners and the `field had to defend well to keep the `bole out. On the 18 minute mark a corner was cleared to the edge of the box however a curling shot from 22 yards rattled Blair Lochhead`s crossbar before going over. An early let-off for Ashfield however the `field should have gone ahead 5 minutes later when a lovely passing move saw Drammeh go clear of his markers before drilling a low shot which was deflected just by the post. The game then raced down the other end and following a couple of corners and long-thrown-ins, one of the corners was cleared only to the edge of the box finding Aaron Miller who drilled a low and hard shot through a ruck of players and into the back of the net to the roar of the home support. Maybole 1 Ashfield 0. The goal had `been coming` and the `field had to regroup and this they did well. Some good wing play failed to find an onrushing Ashfield player however just after the half hour mark it was that man Lasana again who weaved past a couple of tackles before playing in Kieran Findlay and the Ashfield Centre forward took one touch before lashing the ball past Johnstone in the Maybole Goal to the delight of the travelling fans. Maybole 1 Ashfield 1. It was `game on` now and the game ebbed and flowed for the next fifteen minutes with Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal saving low at his post to thwart the home side however apart from that neither team were able to add to their tally before Referee McGregor brought proceedings to a halt.
HT:- MAYBOLE 1 ASHFIELD 1
The home side had made a couple of changes for the start of the second half as Referee McGregor got things restarted. Again similar to the first half both teams looked lively going forward however the `field were backed by the wind but were initially guilty of overhitting their forward balls. The game became a bit bogged down in Midfield for a while with a lot more fouls being committed as the home side utilised the flanks well with a couple of low hard balls across the penalty area. The game became embroiled in a bit of controversy with the coming together of a number of players and the Referee was kept busy dishing out some yellow cards with the home side feeling aggrieved that the punishment should have been stronger on one case. As it was on the 65th Minute following a stop in play the ball was played up to the left wing where the ball again was drilled low and hard across the Ashfield box, this time the home side got their reward as the ball cannoned off the leg of Kelvin Daniels in the Ashfield back four and sailed into the top corner of the net to the delight of the home support. A tough break for young Kelvin however the `field had to regroup again if they were going to salvage anything from the Match. Maybole 2 Ashfield 1. Feelings amongst some players continued to `boil over` and another stop in play saw the Maybole Captain Michael Lennox shown a second yellow for a coming together with Lasana Drammeh and the home side were reduced to 10 men. The `field tried to seize their opportunity of an extra man however following some adjustments to the home side the visitors struggled to break down a well marshalled defence and chances were at a premium. Neil Schoneville made a couple of changes to the visitors however despite this it was the home side that held firm and still looked dangerous on the break and despite five minutes stoppage time the `field were unable to trouble the `bole Keeper before proceedings were brought to a halt with this win for Maybole `hoisting` them up to joint 2nd in the table.
As for the `field the first 70 minutes had been really good and we are not far away from that first League victory however they will be disappointed at not taking advantage of the `extra` man for the closing period.
We thank Maybole for their kind hospitality yesterday and wish them well for the remainder of the Season.

Man of the Match:- The whole Team fought hard however came `up short` in the last 20 minutes even although the home side were reduced to 10 men however for the first 70 minutes there were some excellent performances especially from the front two of Lasana Drammeh and Kieran Tierney ably backed up by their teammates and also mention to Blair Lochhead in goal who was excellent throughout. It was Craig Forbes in the right back berth that put on a really consistent show & wins this weeks award.

Match No 15:- Ashfield 3 Rutherglen Glencairn 4 , Saturday 26th October 2024 - KO 2.30pm - West of Scotland League Division 1 - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG
It was the `field`s 10th League game of the Season and the home side were looking to build on some good performances lately with their first win of the campaign against Rutherglen Glencairn at a windy Stepford Park. This, however was going to be a stern test for Neil Schoneville`s young team as `The Glens` were sitting just off the top of the table so the `field knew they would have to be at their best to secure the points.
As the crowd took their places on the terrace in the improving facilities at Stepford it was the visitors, sporting their `all Red` away kit who grabbed the initiative straight from Referee Michael Bonner`s whistle and should have been ahead after only 30 seconds when a lovely through ball saw Lewis McTaggart break clear of the Ashfield defence and as the Ashfield Keeper advanced he drilled his shot low & hard passed the post. A real let-off for the `field and within a couple of minutes a lovely move on the edge of the box saw a fierce shot from McLaughlin which produced a wonderful finger-tip save from Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal to keep the scores level. The visitors had their tails up and were working the flanks well with left back Mathew Meechan prevalent. As it was the `field survived the initial `onslaught` and to make matters worse for the visitors it was the home side that opened the scoring with their first foray up the park in 8 minutes. A lovely ball to Lasana Drammeh on the right wing saw the Ashfield youngster cut in & pass to Kieran Findlay however the intervention of Oli Black saw him divert the ball past his Keeper and into the net to put the` field ahead. Ashfield 1 R`Glen Glencairn 0. A real bit of fortune for Ashfield however all of a sudden the home side got their passing game together and were utilising the flanks extremely well with the front two of Kieran Findlay and new signing Luke Barclay from Fauldhouse Utd holding the ball up well. A lovely piece of individual skill on 20 minutes by Jordan Hendry on the left side saw the ball whipped across the six yard box missing Findlay`s boot by inches. Shortly after and it was 2-0. Drammeh on the right wing was giving the Glens back four a torrid time and on the 26th minute he drove at the visiting defence before cutting the ball back into the pathway of Barclay who drilled the ball low and hard past the despairing arms of Kieran McDougall in the Glencairn goal to the delight of the home support. Ashfield 2 R`Glen Glencairn 0. A great finish from the big Striker and the confidence grew from the home side as they saw their chance to increase their lead further. It was not all `one way` traffic as the Glens gave out a warning that the game was far from over when a snap shot from the edge of the box brought out another great save from Lochhead who tipped the ball around the post at his left side. As the game headed towards the interval, Ashfield found themselves in `dreamland` as a `stramash` in the box saw the ball fall to Jamie McLean who saw his first shot blocked before he reacted quickly to guide the ball into the net to the delight of the home support. Ashfield 3 R`Glen Glencairn 0. The home side were determined not to concede before the interval and worked extremely hard at closing Glencairn down and found themselves looking for a 4th before the Referee brought proceedings to a halt.
HT:- ASHFIELD 3 R`GLEN GLENCAIRN 0
Both Managers would not have been happy at how `open` the game was at times in the first half however Neil Schoneville would have been delighted with the lead albeit conscious that the next goal was vital. The game started off at a great pace again with the visitors bringing on Ex-Ashfield Striker Ryan McManus to bolster their attacking threat. The visitors had their `tails up` and the tackling was fierce at times with Referee Bonner keen to let the game flow. A couple of free-kicks from the home side were not maximised as the visitors defended well and on the hour mark they got their reward for a lively start to the half when Lewis McTaggart gathered the ball on the edge of the box and with the minimum of back lift hit the ball low and hard into the corner of the net to reduce the deficit. Ashfield 3 R`Glen Glencairn 1. It was important that the `field reacted to this goal and this they did and probably had their best period of the Match for the next 10 minutes. Firstly within 5 minutes substitute Aiden Tierney received a lovely floated ball to the edge of the box which he took first time volleying the ball off the base of the post before being cleared to safety. A minute later and a lovely move involving Lasana Drammeh saw the ball break out to Jamie McLean and the Ashfield midfielder curled a shot past McDougall only to see the ball hit the inside of the post and bounce out. The `field then had the ball in the net however Referee Bonner disallowed for a narrow offside decision. Unfortunately for the home side they were made to pay for these close calls as a lovely ball to the far post from Meechan saw Ross Smith outjump his markers at the back post to divert his header into the net to the roar from the visiting fans. Ashfield 3 R`Glen Glencairn 2. It was `game on` now and the visitors could sense a remarkable comeback however to their credit the Ashfield defence stood firm bringing on Basilio Lawani at the back to reinforce however with the clock ticking towards full time it was that man Meechan again who found some space on the left hand side before whipping the ball into the box with Ross Smith being first to react as he lashed the ball past Lochhead to level the Match. Ashfield 3 R`Glen Glencairn 3. The `field could not believe it as the game approached the 90 minutes. The home side tried to push forward and Kieran Findlay had a great chance on the 92nd Minute when he gathered the ball 25 yards out before driving on and cutting in however his effort narrowly missed the upright. As the clock went into its 6th minute of injury time the visitors won a throw-in on the left hand side level with the box. With every player virtually assembled in the box it was the Glens left back that launched a throw in to the edge of the six yard box and it was Ross McIlveen that outjumped everyone to back head the ball which crept into the far corner of the net to spark scenes of jubilation amongst the players, Management and Supporters of Glencairn as the Ashfield players slumped to their knees. Ashfield 3 R`Glen Glencairn 4. The home side had just time to centre the ball before Referee Bonner brought proceedings to a close. A heart breaking defeat for Ashfield as they put so much into the game but well done to Glencairn for never giving up as this win takes them to joint top of the table.

Man of the Match:- Some excellent performances in the Black and White hoops of Ashfield today. Match No 16:- Cumnock 3 Ashfield 3 (Ashfield won 6-5 on Penalties), Indigo Comms West of Scotland Cup 2nd Round - Saturday 2nd November 2024 - Kick-Off 2.30pm - Townhead Park, Cumnock, Ayrshire KA18 1LG
Ashfield dusted themselves down following an agonising late defeat to Rutherglen Glencairn last Saturday and took the positives from that game channelling it into this tie against Premier Division opponents. Cumnock and Ashfield have had some great `tussles` over the years in Cup games however the balance has certainly been with the Ayrshire Team and particularly at Townhead Park where the `field have never won.
Neil Schoneville`s young team again had to contend with losing an early goal scored by Josh Jack. Ashfield`s Top Scorer in the U20`s Development Team last Season Kieran Findlay had the `field level on 19 minutes before young Lasana Drammeh was fouled in the box on 27 minutes with the resultant Penalty being expertly taken by Captain Josh Moore sending the Cumnock Keeper the wrong way.
The home side stepped up the pace after this and goals on 32 & 39 minutes from Josh Jack again and Craig Little had the `nock going into the interval with a 3-2 lead.
HT:- CUMNOCK 3 ASHFIELD 2
An extremely competitive 45 minutes saw the pendulum swing from one end to another with the `field more than holding their own. The `field should have been level late on missing a header however with 2 minutes left on the clock an in-swinging corner was met by Lasana Drammeh with his header initially blocked before Lewis Brown rattled in the equaliser to the delight of the travelling fans. As it was there were no further goals before Referee Wilson brought proceedings to a close with the game being decided on penalties.

Man of the Match:- A great performance from Ashfield who have been scoring a lot of goals however had not been carrying much luck. Match No 17:- Vale of Clyde 3 Ashfield 0, West of Scotland League Division 1 - KO 2pm - Fullarton Park, Tollcross, Glasgow G32 8LD - Saturday 9th November 2024
It had been a number of Seasons since the `field had graced the turf of Fullarton Park and yesterday`s match was an important League Match for both sides in a bid to claw themselves further up the table. Both teams came into the game on the back of good results with the `field hoping now for a turn of fortune after putting Premier Division Cumnock out of the West of Scotland Cup. The hosts meanwhile held Petershill in Springburn and by all accounts were unlucky not to take all of the points.
As Referee Steven Spence started the Match, it was the `field playing in their away strip of `All Red & Black trim` that had to shuffle the pack slightly with the loss of Drammeh & Forbes from the Team that won last week. The hosts started the game on the front foot and looked dangerous straight from the kick-off utilising the flanks well and had an early shot which failed to trouble Clarke in the Ashfield goal. The `field`s response was immediate & should have gone ahead on the 3rd minute when a lovely ball through found Lewis Brown evade a tackle before finding himself room on the edge of the box. The Ex-Pollok winger`s shot however missed the far post by inches as the game kicked to life.
Ashfield were building the ball up well from the back however the home side were holding a high line. A major `talking point` was a tackle on Ashfield`s young left back Kaine McFarlane which left the youngster on the ground in agony. Referee Spence deemed the tackle a yellow card offence however the full back was unable to carry on and was replaced by Daniel Amhanre. The hosts however continued to exert some pressure on the visitors but Josh Moore and his back line held firm. A slack pass shortly after in the middle of the park was picked up by a vale midfielder before playing the ball to winger Lewis Taylor who drove down the flank before delivering a wicked ball across the six yard box which was deflected into his own net by Josh Moore to the delight of the home support. Vale of Clyde 1 Ashfield 0. The home side had their tails up now and foraged forward at every opportunity however a lovely break from Ashfield saw Jordan Hendry evade a couple of tackles before despatching a left foot shot past the arms of Gordon in the home goal however the shot missed the far post to the relief of the home support. The `field were made to pay as the game approached the midway point of the half when again Lewis Moore picked up the ball on the left side before cutting in and playing the ball off to Aaron O`Hare who drilled the ball from 22 yards out into the far corner of the net with immense power to put the `tin pail` further ahead. A real blow to the `field who knew they were up against it now. Vale of Clyde 2 Ashfield 0.
The game had a real `cup tie` feel to it as the match became extremely open and both sides had chances to score before the interval. With 10 minutes to half time it was the home side that should have increased their lead when another ball was played across the face of the goal by Moore and it was an onrushing Paul Donaghy who lifted the ball over the Ashfield keeper clipping the top of the crossbar on the way over. A let off for the `field however with only a few minutes to the interval the visitors were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box. Josh Moore chipped the ball into the middle with Rennie Robertson getting a good header to it however the ball hit the base of the post and was scrambled to safety before Referee Spence brought an enthralling first half to a halt.
HT:- VALE OF CLYDE 2 ASHFIELD 0
It was the Ashfield who started the brightest in the 2nd period with a slight change of formation to a 3-5-2 with both full-backs being pushed forward and for the first time in the game managed to assert themselves with a sustained level of pressure. Luke Barclay, Ashfield`s recent signing from Fauldhouse United, sent a fizzing shot into the side netting from 22 yards. The hosts were content to sit in, defend and hit Ashfield on the break and again it was the No 11 Lewis Moore that `caught the eye` with his direct running which had to be defended well by the Ashfield rear-guard. Ashfield were foraging forward at every opportunity and the hosts were guilty of conceding a number of free-kicks. Josh Moore stepped up on a couple of occasions curling the ball on target from circa 22 yards out which were well dealt with by the Vale Keeper with the second save worthy of note plucking the ball as it sailed towards the top corner. Daniel Amhanre was looking good coming forward and with 20 minutes left on the clock drove at the Vale defence weaving in and out of tackles before whipping the ball goal-wards only to see Craig Gordon in the Vale goal produce a brilliant one handed save to deny the `field.
A strong penalty `shout` was next up for Ashfield however despite the protests from the visitors, Referee Spence was having none of it as the play raged on. The home side were defending well in numbers and it was now looking like Ashfield were not going to score for the first time in 12 games and to `rub salt in the wound` with just under 6 minutes to go a long throw-in on the right found Josh Moore on the wrong side of his marker and as he attempted to win the ball brought down the Vale player with the Referee immediately pointing to the spot. Paul Donaghy stepped up, placing it well and just out of the grasp of Max Clarke to put the home side 3-0 up. Vale of Clyde 3 Ashfield 0. A harsh score line on Ashfield however there were many plus points to take from the game as the clock ticked towards full time. 17 year old Rennie Robertson looked like he had been playing in the Midfield berth for a long time and the introduction of James Ferguson certainly added to the `field`s overall performance. They will be disappointed at conceding twice in the opening stages of the Match against strong opponents and they must `dust themselves` down for a trip to Renfrew next Saturday.
We would like to thank Vale of Clyde for their kind hospitality.

It had been a long time in the waiting for the famous Kirkintilloch Club however the ground and facilities were first class and the healthy crowd that arrived were treated to an exciting game. Both teams were keen to move away from the lower half of the table and this was shown straight from Referee Broadfoot`s whistle as it was firstly the visitors who claimed the first chance after circa 30 seconds. Kieran Findlay, Ashfield`s top scorer this Season, picked the ball up just inside his own half before utilising his pace as he evaded a number of tackles before despatching a net bound effort which was brilliantly turned round the post by the Rob Roy Keeper Jack Main. Ashfield started the game on the front foot with young Lasana Drammeh causing problems for Rob Roy down the left flank before cutting in however the Ashfield winger took an extra touch before being closed down. The hosts were `sprung into action` after this and it was Ex-Ashfield Midfielder Jordan Pirrie that was `catching the eye` again with his movement and passing ability and after 15 minutes he was the architect of a lovely move which should have seen the opening goal. Pirrie cut in from the left hand side before delivering a curling ball to the far post only to see Jack McKenna`s shot brilliantly blocked by Lochhead in the Ashfield goal before the ball was cleared to safety. A number of free kicks and corners ensued for the home side however they were well defended by the Ashfield defence. As the game approached the half hour mark a lovely ball out of defence from Ashfield`s left back Kavanagh saw Jamie McLean get ahead of his marker before utilising his pace to go through one on one with the Keeper. The Ex-Largs Thistle player controlled the ball before drilling the ball low and hard past the Rob Roy Keeper to put Ashfield ahead to the delight of the travelling support. K`tilloch Rob Roy 0 Ashfield 1. A great goal from Ashfield`s point of view with Jamie McLean continuing his rich vein of form.
Rob Roy were determined to claw back the deficit but found Lochhead in the Ashfield goal in good form as he dealt with some long range shots from the hosts. A move down the left saw Jake Stirling get ahead of his marker lobbing the ball over the advancing Keeper before being denied by a goal line clearance from Josh Moore. A let off for Ashfield however the home fans did not have long to wait and it was that man Jordan Pirrie that picked the ball up some 25 yards out before despatching a shot into the top corner of the net to pull the game level. A stunning strike from Pirrie. K`tilloch Rob Roy 1 Ashfield 1. The `field kept their discipline and shape well after this and the game ebbed and flowed until Referee Broadfoot brought first half proceedings to a close with everything to play for in the second.
HT:- K`TILLOCH ROB ROY 1 ASHFIELD 1
There was no change to either line-up for the start of the second half however the wind began to pick up pace with no team gaining advantage from it. As it was, it was the home side that `came out the traps` the stronger of the two for the first 15/20 minutes of the second half putting the `field under a good deal of pressure without creating too much in the way of clear cut chances. A low shot from outside of the box by Stirling tested Blair Lochhead as he pushed the ball round the post. Jordan Pirrie also tested the Ashfield Keeper again with a wicked free-kick from the edge of the box which was well held before another lovely effort by Adam Kettings saw his curling effort narrowly miss the upright.
However as the half wore on it was Ashfield that began to make things happen following a couple of substitutions. A lovely move down the left saw young Aiden Campbell whip the ball across the six yard box without any takers. Luke Barclay was also winning his fair share of headers bringing his midfielders into the game and James Ferguson & Dylan Martin were working tirelessly closing down the Rob Roy playmakers and with 15 minutes to go the `field got their reward. A cross from the left hand side found Jamie McLean on the edge of the box and with one touch he controlled the ball, swivelled and made a stride forward before lashing a shot into the far corner of the net to the delight of the Players, Management and support. A terrific goal from Jamie and one which stung the hosts. K`tilloch Rob Roy 1 Ashfield 2. The game was still being played at a terrific pace however the home side were running out of ideas as the clock ticked towards the 90 minutes. A couple of injuries were sustained to Ashfield players and a further flurry of subs were brought on by the `field and it was good to see so many of the U20`s Development Team on the park. With the `field looking for the Referee`s final whistle the home side piled forward at every opportunity however the `field managed to thwart any clear cut chances and in the 3rd minute of injury time a long ball out of defence was played over the Rob Roy Centre half`s head and as he was pressurised by James Ferguson he knocked the ball past his advancing keeper leaving Ferguson with the easiest of chances to knock the ball into the empty net to spark celebration scenes in the visiting dug-out as this was going to be Ashfield`s first League win of the season after coming so close recently. K`tilloch Rob Roy 1 Ashfield 3. In addition it must be noted that this is the 4th time in the last 5 games that Ashfield have scored 3 goals and this is something that Neil Schoneville and his Management Team will be looking to build on with the games coming thick and fast right up until Christmas.
We would like to thank Rob Roy and their Committee for their kind hospitality yesterday.

Man of the Match:- A really hard working performance against a strong Rob Roy side paid dividends in the latter stages of the Match when the `field scored twice in the last 18 minutes to secure all three points. The `field defended very well and no one more so than Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal who produced a string of excellent saves especially in the first half and wins this week`s award.

Match No 21:- Ashfield 1 Cumbernauld United 1 (Cumbernauld Utd won 7-6 on Penalties) - Saturday 7th December 2024 - KO 2.30pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG - Indigo Comms West of Scotland Cup 3rd Round.
The West of Scotland Cup was a break from League action for both teams yesterday (7/12/24) and the Pre-Christmas Crowd were treated to an enjoyable 90 minutes and then ultimately to penalties as both teams could not be separated on the day. The `field will be happy with their performance against a strong Cumbernauld outfit and they continued the good form from last week`s win at Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. Neil Schoneville made one enforced change from last week with Lasana Drammeh dropping out through injury to be replaced by young Aiden Campbell who has been `catching the eye` recently with some excellent displays for the U20s Team and as a substitute for the First Team.
Referee Barry Cook set the `wheels in motion` as both teams started solidly with goalscoring opportunities at a premium in the early stages & the game being played a lot in Midfield. Cumbernauld`s Ronan Kearney and the `field`s Centre Luke Barclay were involved in the early attacks and were linking in well with their team-mates. The visitors were first to test the home defence with an in-swinging cross which saw Conor Hughes fail to connect properly with a header and Kieran Findlay at the other end delivering a couple of dangerous crosses into the box. However just before the half hour and relatively `out of the blue` it was the visitors who struck first. Again it was Ronan Kearney who was on the right wing berth who cut in and from fully 22 yards drilled the ball low and hard and into the corner of the net past the despairing arms of Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal to the roar of the visiting support. Ashfield 0 Cumbernauld United 1. An excellent finish which brought the game to life and sparked a good response from the `field. Ashfield, all of a sudden stepped up a gear and Kieran Findlay had a net bound shot blocked following a `stramash` in the box and shortly after drove the ball from outside the area which clipped the top of the bar. The `field also had a loud appeal for a hand ball in the box with Referee Cook waiving aside the appeal.
Aiden Campbell was also coming more into the game as the home side began to stretch the visitors and as the clock ticked towards half time the `field drew level and what a goal it was. Luke Barclay who had worked tirelessly in the first half against experienced Centre Backs played the ball into Kieran Findlay on the edge of the box and the young Striker volleyed the ball straight away which dipped and crashed off the underside of the bar and into the net leaving Scott Law in the United Goal with no chance. Ashfield 1 Cumbernauld United 1. It was no more than the home side deserved with Referee Barry Cook bringing first half proceedings to a halt shortly after with all to play for in the second half.
HT:- ASHFIELD 1 CUMBERNAULD UTD 1
The game started in similar vein to the first with defences on top and it was the visitors again who had the first chance of the half following Kearney`s cross to the far post which saw a downward header well gathered by Lochhead in the Ashfield goal. Ashfield were next up with a series of corner kicks which were well defended by the United defence. The home side were getting a lot of joy down the flanks however were wary of the visitors breakaways and Josh Moore and Craig Forbes made some excellent last gasp clearance as the game swung from one end to another. The temperature certainly had dropped for the support but the action on the Park was keeping the Crowd warm as both teams made a final push to avoid the game going to penalties. It was the home side that finished strongly with firstly Luke Barclay bulleting a header straight at Scott Law from a corner before Kieran Findlay broke clear of his marker only to drill the ball at the advancing Keeper. As it was the game ended all square and went to penalties where some excellent kicks were taken coupled with some fine saves too however it was the visitors who triumphed by 7-6 to progress into Round 4 and we wish them all the best.
It`s back to League action next week and an important game at the KG Stadium against Blantyre Victoria before finishing the year off with a trip to new Petershill Park on the 21st December to meet Petershill.

Man of the Match:- A very mature performance from the young Ashfield Team and they can be proud of their efforts against a strong Cumbernauld Team where they more than matched their opponents and carried a real threat going forward. That coupled with the organisation from Josh Moore and his defence made for a good Match and the `field can go into the next tranche of games with confidence. Difficult to highlight an individual as they all played their part however young Kieran Findlay`s goal was an absolute screamer & he wins this week`s award.

Match No 21:- Blantyre Victoria 1 Ashfield 1 - Saturday 14th December 2024 - KO 1.30pm - West of Scotland League Division 1 - KG Stadium, Castle Park, Forrest Street, Blantyre G72 0DL
Both teams came into yesterday`s Match on the back of a couple of very good results and were determined to put more `points on the board` in a bid to catch the teams above them in this very competitive League. The `field didn`t have their `troubles to seek ` going into game with no less than 6 players out through injury and unavailability however the benefits of having the Academy structure in place has certainly benefitted Ashfield this Season.
As it was the chilly overhead conditions were matched by the difficult underfoot conditions as Referee Ewan Dunn got proceedings underway with the home side in their traditional `All blue` outfit with the `field changing to their away strip of `All Red with black trim` and within 30 seconds the home side should have been ahead. Virtually straight from kick-off the Vics midfield drove at the Ashfield rear-guard and a threaded pass saw the Vics left winger pick the ball up just inside the box before despatching a low drive which went inches past the far post to the relief of the Ashfield support. Ashfield were jolted into action and for the next 15/20 mins both sides foraged forward at every opportunity however defences were on top and although both sides put each other under pressure chances were at a premium.
The midfield was well contested with Ferguson & Martin for Ashfield working tirelessly against a strong Vics presence in this area. Both teams had a good number of corners throughout the half but both Keepers and defences remained on top and as the first half proceedings came to a halt both sets of supporters knew that the game was evenly poised.
HT:- BLANTYRE VICS 0 ASHFIELD 0
As the Match restarted , Neil Schoneville had made one change to the line up with Daniel Amhanre coming on for young Aiden Campbell and within 5 minutes the `field almost made the breakthrough and it was substitute Amhanre who picked the ball up 30 yards out before evading a number of tackles and threading a pass through to Luke Barclay who took one touch before curling a shot which cannoned off the crossbar. The Vics reply was immediate and a couple of shots were well held by Blair Lochhead in the Ashfield goal. Craig Forbes had moved into the Centre half position and was winning everything in the air as the home side tried to build up a period of sustained pressure. The `field were then forced into replacing OK Daniel at the back with the return of Lewis Warnock.
As the game approached the 70 minute mark a breakthrough was made and it was from the home side. A ball into the middle was partially cleared to the edge of the box before the Vics right back Blair drilled a low hard shot through a ruck of players and despite the efforts of Lochhead in the Ashfield goal the ball squirmed inches over the line to spark scenes of celebration amongst the Vic Players, Management and supporters. Blantyre Vics 1 Ashfield 0. A real blow for the visitors as the home side `upped the pace` and almost got a second shortly after. A well delivered corner to the far post saw Centre half David Quinn loop a header over the Keeper which crashed off the post and was scrambled to safety. Referee Dunn was kept busy as a number of tackles in midfield saw yellow cards as the game became frantic however the `field deserve credit for clawing their way back into the game and with nine minutes remaining on the clock and following a number of corners the ball was played out to the right flank where Kyle Lauchlan whipped in a cross which Kieran Findlay went for but was unable to make contact as the ball sailed past him and past Osinski in the Blantyre goal and nestled in the corner of the net to the delight of the players, management and supporters of the `field. Blantyre Vics 1 Ashfield 1. The game swung from end to end after this as both teams went for the winner with Blair Lochhead pulling off a good save and then with two minutes of injury time played a `stramash` inside the Vics box saw Amhanre drill the ball through a ruck of players only to see him thwarted by the Vics Keeper before Referee Dunn brought proceedings to a close.
A frantic end to an enjoyable Match and the 130+ crowd were treated to two teams `giving their all`. Taking the whole match in a draw was a fair result and the `field will be hoping that their injury list improves ahead of their visit to New Petershill Park next Saturday (21st).

Match No 22:- Petershill 5 Ashfield 3 , New Petershill Park, 28-30 Adamswell Street, Glasgow G21 4BF - West of Scotland League Division 1 - Saturday 21st December 2024 - KO 2pm
This re-arranged fixture was eagerly awaited by both sets of fans and a fitting end to 2024 that both these famous Clubs `locked horns`. Unfortunately for the occasion the weather decided to wreak havoc in the Central Belt of Scotland and both teams came out to a gale force wind and `biblical rain`. The home side decided to `kick against the wind` in the first half and this proved an excellent idea as it was Petershill who adapted far better to the conditions with the ball being able to hold up, coupled with good passing movements whereas the `field were guilty of overhitting the ball with the wind behind them and despite two chances from Jamie McLean, one which hit the base of the post after Petershill had opened their account, it was more or less dominated by the hosts.
It only took the home side 4 minutes to open their account and from an Ashfield point of view this was a bad goal to lose. A foray down the left flank saw the ball whipped into the box where Alex Cassells peeled away from his marker and headed the ball goalwards only to see the ball hit Kavanagh and divert into the corner of the net to the roar of the home support. Petershill 1 Ashfield 0. Ashfield responded well to going behind and Jamie McLean should have levelled as he utilised his tremendous pace to run through on goal and as Bailey McGuire advanced he drilled the ball low and hard past the keeper but the ball cannoned off the base of the post and was cleared to safety. The `field had a similar chance a couple of minutes later as the same player drove in on goal only to see his shot go wide. The `field were made to `pay` for these chances as a lovely move from Petershill just after the half hour mark increased their lead with Dom Morgan latching onto a cute pull back to left foot the ball past the despairing arms of Max Clarke. Petershill 2 Ashfield 0. The half continued in the same vein with the `field struggling to build up any concerted pressure and the hosts looking dangerous at every attack. As it was Referee Gary Train brought proceedings to a close without any goals or near misses as the healthy crowd headed for the catering facilities and for something warm to drink.
HT:- PETERSHILL 2 ASHFIELD 0
The next goal would be crucial and it would be interesting to see how both teams would adapt to the wind however the answer was pretty imminent as Petershill won a corner at the Springburn end of the ground. A lovely curling wind assisted delivery was positioned at the back of the six yard box where Ryan Thomson outjumped the visiting defence to bullet a header into the roof of the net to put the `Peasy` 3-0 up. Petershill 3 Ashfield 0. This was not the start the visitors wanted to the second half however despite this set back started to string some passing movements together however had to be extremely careful of the Petershill break-aways and the `field almost got caught out on a couple of occasions. Ashfield eventually pulled a goal back on the 54th minute when a cross into the box from Lewis Warnock saw the Petershill defender divert a header against his own woodwork with James Ferguson first to react as his diving header found the back of the net to reduce the deficit. Petershill 3 Ashfield 1. Just as Ashfield were thinking about trying to get back into the game an excellent tackle in the middle of the park saw the ball break to Alex Cassells and from 30 yards out he drove the ball into the top corner of Clarke`s net to the roar of the home support. An excellent strike for his 2nd of the game. Petershill 4 Ashfield 1. The game ebbed and flowed for a while & a lovely through ball from Josh Moore saw Jamie McLean run in on goal only to be brought back by the Petershill Centre Half. Referee Gary Train immediately brandished a Red for hand ball as Ashfield were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box. As Ashfield pushed forward with 18 minutes left on the clock the ball was played back up the park where Ger Stevenson managed to break clear of his marker before lashing the ball into the far corner of the net to put the home side further ahead. Petershill 5 Ashfield 1. This was now a `heavy` score-line against the visitors however to their credit following a couple of personnel changes the `field played extremely well for the last 15 minutes. Firstly on 75 minutes James Ferguson drove the ball inches past before young Aiden Campbell drilled the ball at McGuire in the Petershill goal however as the clock ticked towards full time Ashfield scored a lovely goal as Kavanagh on the left found Craig Forbes in an advanced position and his header across goal saw Jamie McLean drive the ball home for his 6th goal of the Season. Petershill 5 Ashfield 2. As the game moved into injury time, another Ashfield attack saw the ball bounce about the box before Lewis Warnock tried to volley goal-wards with the blocked shot going up in the air. As Luke Barclay went for the header he was bundled over by an eager McGuire with Referee Train having no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Josh Moore stepped up and sent the Keeper the wrong way to reduce the deficit. Petershill 5 Ashfield 3. The visitors had their `tails up` now however the pressure came too late and the game finished shortly after.
Both teams meet again on the 22nd February 2025 at Stepford Park and that is now 20 goals in the last three meeting between the teams so another exciting game is in prospect in February.
We would like to thank Petershill for their kind hospitality yesterday.

Man of the Match:- A bit of a `Jekyll and Hyde` performance from Ashfield today where it took them a long time to get used to the conditions losing some bad goals and missing some good chances however James Ferguson worked tirelessly throughout the game and was rewarded with opening Ashfield`s account for the day.
